Due to the phenomenal response we had to our last sponsored walk; we have decided to “have another go”. This time we thought we would add some drama and (in my case), some adrenalin or if I’m honest, “just plain fear”.
The route we have planned is Helvellyn via Striding Edge, a rocky ridge with big drops on either side, leading to the Lakeland’s second highest range which at its highest point stands at 950m or 2896ft above sea level. From Stick’s Pass, we would head due east, then south east and then join up with Glenridding Beck which will lead us back to Glenridding. This walk will be approximately 10 miles in length on often difficult, exposed terrain and should take approximately 8 hours to complete. We hope to do this in late spring or early summer of 2008.
You have helped us with keeping the Owl Centre in good repair which is very important but we also need help with our projects. The big project for 2008 is to put more CCTV cameras in our nest boxes so that we as keepers can monitor breeding and the well being of the hatched owlets and also share that experience with visitors to the centre via new display screens in the entrance building and on our website site.
Our members have never failed us in supporting our work and I am sure you will help us where you can. If you would like to sponsor the team, please complete the sponsorship form enclosed with this newsletter.
