Tuesday October 2nd 2012

A quiet week in most ways except the weather. The audiences were quite appreciative if membership recruitment was anything to go by. I personally signed up 12 new members last week, as well as 3 adoptions. This often happens at this time of year, when the audience is mostly made up of adults.

I was scheduled to do an 'after hours' flying display last Thursday. Mortimer was actually requested for this event, the problem being that it was scheduled for 19.30pm! At this time of the year it is getting dark now, so the event had to altered to ‘owls on gauntlets’. Steve and David helped out on this event. They each carried a bird; Fidget the Barn Owl and Toby the Tawny Owl was used. I decided to nip via the shed on the front lawn to collect the visitor gloves we use for taking photos of visitors holding owls. That was the theory anyway! It never crossed my mind that it would be too dark to read the combination lock! After several attempts, by sheer fluke I managed to get the right combination. The odds on this happening were a 1000 to 1. After that, everything went without a hitch.

See you next week
