I’m pleased to say that both new recruits to the flying team; ‘Dusk’ the European Eagle Owl, and ‘Fudge’ the Tawny Owl have had their ‘baptism of fire’ over the weekend; both have flown free off the creance line at ‘Meet the Birds’, and are thereby fully fledged members of the flying club. It’s always a little nerve wracking when you start training new birds. The thing is, these creatures aren’t bred to the task they are being trained for; they are wild animals, and it isn’t a foregone conclusion that these birds would end up successfully trained. Anyway, all’s well that ends well.
It’s nearly time for the World Owl Trust’s AGM again. This year, as last year, will be at Stirk House Hotel at Gisburn in Lancashire. Proceedings ‘kick off’ at 2pm. amongst other things, there will be a wildlife walk, and there will be the opportunity to have a close encounter with a real owl ambassador or two. Renowned local artist Michael Demain will be showcasing examples of his paintings. To round the day off, there will be a gala dinner with a PowerPoint presentation on the ‘Conservation of British Owls’ by Ian McGuire of Wild Owl Fame.
If you are interested in attending, please contact us here at the office on 01229 717393.
