It’s been very much an early Spring this week. I have managed much of it in just my shirt; having been able to shed the thermal fleece I have been wearing like a second skin since last October. The Owls in our collection have been taking their cue and the first owlets of the season have appeared. Three White-faced Owlets are perched out with their parents as we speak. We know there are owlets in with the Tropical Screech Owls in the breeding ground as well as the Dark-breasted Barn Owls. We think the American Barn Owls and Bert and Betty the Mackinder’s Eagle Owls have been successful as well. On a slightly different note, the first pigs in the Breeding Ground have gone, and have been replaced by a Large Black sow and her large litter of piglets. I’m sure they must keep the owls entertained, as three out of the four pens down there are filled now.

We are on the countdown for the sponsored walk which, (all being well), will take place next week. Both Andy and I will be flying on Monday the 28th. I have been in training for this and did some fell walking last week by doing Coniston’s Old Man ‘the hard way’. That is to say, I got a little complacent and ended up at Lever’s Water. I knew where I was, and rather than double back I went straight up to Lever’s Hause and the turned south for the summit. By the time I was done, even the dogs were limping. Still, it was good prep for next week. At least my recently injured ankle bore up well. Fingers crossed.

I have been putting the finishing touches to our brand new Supporters board in the entrance unit. The actual sign itself took me nearly a week to finish as I had to hand paint it. All the current supporters are now displayed on the board. I will leave you with a picture of Caroline and Peter Watson from Parkgate Farm Holidays www.parkgatefarmholidays.co.uk handing over their display for the supporters board.
