Wulf’s Blog

Wulf

Saturday 30th October 2010

It’s been almost exactly a year since I started doing this blog. My first entry was on Halloween 2009. At the time I mentioned all the spooky Halloween capers here at Muncaster. This year The World Owl Trust is joining in the fun. We are doing Spooky Owl Tours round the centre, every half hour from 6pm till 8.30pm both Andy and myself will be donning Halloween regalia, and will be escorted by Sparky the Barn Owl. We have been doing this since Sunday the 24th of October. The tour involves Andy doing the lion’s share of the talking, and myself being a ‘sinister usher’. The centre, with the help of Muncaster, has had some atmospheric lighting installed. Initial response has been very positive. Next year we should be able to make it, visually even more atmospheric.

This week has been busy for other reasons too. We have been working with Warner Bros, the company who have just released ‘Legends Of The Guardians’, the film that features Barn Owls. Both Andy and myself have been to Carlisle twice, and to Kendal and Blackburn.

It was, and continues to be a long week. I would say both Andy and myself are running on reserve at the moment, as the day starts at 8 am, and doesn’t finish un till 9pm. We have been joined by volunteers Roy and Debs Smith, (of sponsored skydive fame), who are helping us to do the spooky Halloween tour. We were joined on Friday night by Lakeland Radio, who came on the last tour of the night. They did an interview with Andy afterwards. We have been taking it in turns to talk about the different subjects on the tour. What is really effective is the halogen torch, when aimed at Sparky, as it shows him in a ghostly light.
