Owls At Rodbaston Animal Zone
As members are aware over 80 of the WOT owls are being housed temporarily in The Animal Zone of the South Staffordshire College Rodbaston Campus. The last of the birds moved in at the end of July 2015 when the BBC came to film their arrival which provided tremendous publicity for the Trust and the College.
The students and staff at Rodbaston carry out the day to day care of the birds which provides excellent experience for the students and increases the range of animals that they get the opportunity to work with during their studies. The arrangement with the college is intended to be a long term one with the college becoming a satellite centre of the WOT and a small number of birds remaining there when we move out in order to continue the opportunity for students to work with the birds on a daily basis. Students will also be able to go to the new permanent home of the Trust on work experience placements at the New World Owl Centre being established at Himley Hall near Dudley.
Having closed for the winter, the Animal Zone re-opened to the public February 2017 and will then be open at weekends and every day during the school holidays. It is not open to visitors during term time. There is an opportunity for visitors to meet the Owls and our Fabulous Volunteers and Staff who are happy to chat about the Owls and our work and answer any questions you may have.
